  1. Heavy duty cleaning of the entire home such as hand washing hard flooring surfaces, clean all windows and screens, remove items from the refrigerator & freezer to clean and replace, remove contents from cabinets, drawers and pantry to clean and replace, remove unwanted clothing from closets and donate to a charity, etc.
  2. Contact an HVAC contractor to perform seasonal maintenance on the furnace, air conditioner and humidifier. All registers (wall, floor & ceiling) should be cleaned annually.
  3. Inspect the roof for shingles that may be loose or missing due to the previous winter. Contact a roofing contractor if repairs are necessary.
  4. Test smoke detectors and replace the smoke detector batteries.
  5. Make sure all downspouts are on and properly attached to the gutters. Check gutters for debris.
  6. Inspect all caulked areas for separation such as around toilets, tubs & showers, faucets, sinks, countertops, window sills and all other appropriate areas. If separation has occurred purchase the appropriate caulking material and follow the directions for application.
  7. Clean or replace all filters.
  8. Check the foundation for settling and fill areas where needed to maintain drainage.
  9. Open windows on nice days to allow the house to breathe.
  10. Check all exterior siding and/or brick for damage and replace as necessary.
  11. Check the attic for leaks and verify insulation is not blocking any vents or soffit. Place the insulation blocking those areas in its original location and add insulation where needed.
